Roger Léron Award Ceremony

The Roger Léron Award celebrates outstanding contributions to the development of sustainable energy at the EU, local and regional level. The Prize established in 2014, is named in memory of Roger Léron, a pioneer of regional energy development in Europe and one of FEDARENE’s founders. Like him, FEDARENE believes that regional and local levels of governance play a central role in energy and climate issues, through their competence in many policy areas, their proximity to citizens, their thorough knowledge of the territory. In fact, innovative actions led at the local/regional level often trigger impacts at a wider level with implications that expand well beyond the initially planned areas.

Many people are working on the ground to advance the Energy Transition, whether they are a part of a local or regional energy agency, a public authority, a non-profit organisation or a private company. All of these people show the same creativity, motivation, leadership and strategic vision to scale up energy efficiency and increase the use of renewable energy sources. The Roger Léron Award was established to reward their work and recognize their achievements.

2019 already marks the 5th anniversary of the Roger Léron Award. For the occasion, several novelties are foreseen. This year, the focus will be on creativity, in order to highlight innovative actions, new ideas, breakthrough approaches, but also creative ways to overcome challenging barriers. For the first time since its launch, the Roger Léron Award will be handed out to two individuals: the usual winner selected by the Jury, and a second winner elected by the audience in the room during the Award Ceremony in Brussels on the 9th of October. Make sure you do not miss the opportunity to assist to the ceremony, so you can vote for your favourite nominee!

Nominees will be announced in the coming weeks, and also more information about the ceremony’s program. So, stay tuned!
